Have you lost something at Los Angeles International Airport ? Find out how to report a lost item at one of the world’s busiest airports and the primary gateway to Southern California.

About Los Angeles International Airport
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the third-busiest airport in the United States and one of the world’s major international gateways, serving over 87 million passengers annually. Located approximately 18 miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles in the Westchester neighborhood, LAX operates as a crucial hub for domestic and international travel, with nine passenger terminals arranged in a distinctive horseshoe configuration around the central terminal area.
The airport serves as a major hub for Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines, while also hosting significant operations by Southwest Airlines and numerous international carriers. LAX provides extensive connectivity to destinations across North America, Asia, Europe, Latin America, Oceania, and the Middle East, making it one of the most important aviation crossroads in the world.
With its enormous passenger volume, complex multi-terminal layout, and role as a global gateway, personal items are frequently lost throughout the terminals, security checkpoints, the iconic Theme Building area, and the airport’s extensive retail and dining facilities serving travelers from around the world.
How to Report a Lost Item at Los Angeles International Airport
If you’ve lost an item at LAX, report it as soon as possible to improve your chances of recovery. Provide specific details including which terminal you were in (Terminals 1 through 8, or the Tom Bradley International Terminal), the location where you lost the item (security checkpoint, gate number, restaurant or shop name), the date and time, your flight information, and a detailed description of the item.
You can also fill out and submit our Lost & Found Reporting Form on this platform, so our team can assist you in locating your lost item(s).

Tips to Prevent Losing Items at Los Angeles Airport
At Security Checkpoints :
- LAX has multiple security checkpoints per terminal
- Use screening bins systematically and count them
- Don’t rush through TSA even during busy periods
- Verify you have laptop, phone, wallet, belt, and shoes
- Check the entire checkpoint area before leaving
At Your Gate :
- LAX terminals can be crowded and hectic
- Keep belongings consolidated in one location
- Avoid using gate seating pockets for valuables
- Set a phone reminder to check your area before boarding
- Count your items before joining the boarding queue
Terminal Navigation :
- LAX has nine separate terminals with limited post-security connections
- Note which terminal you’re in (important for recovery reporting)
- Terminal transfers may require exiting security
- Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) is the largest and busiest
- Inter-terminal shuttles and buses serve different terminals
In Terminal Areas :
- Restaurants and cafes: Check seats, tables, counters, and restroom hooks
- Charging stations: Verify all devices and cables before leaving
- Shops and duty-free: Count all purchases and shopping bags
- Restrooms: Look at hooks, counters, and changing tables
- Waiting areas: Check seating thoroughly, especially during long delays
For International Travelers :
- TBIT serves most international flights
- Customs and immigration areas are common loss points
- Check all areas after clearing customs
- Currency exchange and duty-free purchases mean more items to track
- Long-haul fatigue increases chances of forgetting items
Items Lost at Los Angeles International Airport
If your item was lost anywhere in LAX (security checkpoints, terminal areas, restaurants, shops, gates, baggage claim, or parking structures), contact the airport’s Lost & Found office.
Los Angeles International Airport – Lost & Found Office
Address: 5600 W. Century Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90045
Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM
The office is closed on weekends and federal holidays. Items lost during these times must wait until the next business day to be reported.
LAX’s nine-terminal layout means specifying your terminal number is essential for efficient searches. Each terminal operates somewhat independently for lost property collection.
Items Lost on Aircraft
If you left something onboard your flight, contact your airline directly. LAX serves Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, JetBlue, Spirit, Frontier, and numerous international carriers including British Airways, Air France, Lufthansa, Emirates, Qantas, ANA, and many others. Each airline maintains separate lost property procedures for items found on their aircraft.
Items found on planes are managed by airlines, not the airport Lost & Found office.
Where to Claim Your Lost Property
If your item is found, LAX will contact you with collection instructions. Items can be collected from the Lost & Found office at 5600 W. Century Blvd during operating hours (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM).
Plan your collection visit carefully given the limited hours. The early 3:00 PM closing time may be challenging for working travelers.
For items found after you’ve left Los Angeles or California, shipping arrangements may be possible but fees apply. California postal and courier services are available for domestic and international delivery.
