Have you lost something on an El Al flight ? This page provides the contact details for El Al’s baggage services and explains what to do to report a lost item and recover your belongings.

About El Al
El Al (LY) is Israel’s national airline and flag carrier, founded in 1948 and headquartered at Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv. The airline operates an extensive international network connecting Israel to destinations across Europe, North America, the Far East, Africa, and the Far East. El Al is known for maintaining the highest security standards of any civilian airline in the world, with extensive pre-boarding screening procedures. The airline operates a fleet including Boeing 737, 767, 777, and 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
Given El Al’s role as the primary carrier for travellers to and from Israel, the airline serves a mix of business travellers, tourists, and passengers visiting family. Long-haul routes to North America, Europe, and Asia create significant cabin belongings activity, with items including electronics, prayer books, travel documents, and clothing commonly left in seat pockets or overhead lockers at the end of a flight.
What to Do If You’ve Lost Something with El Al
Contact El Al Baggage Services as soon as possible after your flight. Provide your flight number, date, seat number, and a detailed description of the item. Given the security-focused nature of El Al’s operations, items found on board go through a defined handling procedure before being made available for collection.
You can also submit a report through our platform, so that our team can contact and follow up with the lost property office(s) on your behalf.
Items Lost on Board vs. at the Airport
Items left on the El Al aircraft should be reported to El Al’s baggage services team. Items lost in the terminal at Ben Gurion International Airport should be reported to the airport’s own lost and found service. Given the extensive security areas at Ben Gurion, it is also worth checking with the security screening teams if you believe the item was left at a checkpoint.
Tips to Efficiently Report a Lost Item
- Contact El Al Baggage Services as soon as you arrive at your destination, before leaving the baggage claim area
- Note your seat number and any areas of the cabin where you stored belongings
- Be prepared for a more thorough reporting process given the airline’s security protocols
- For lost passports or travel documents, also notify the relevant embassy or consulate
- El Al operates on the Hebrew calendar, so note that the office is closed on Shabbat (Friday sunset to Saturday night) and Jewish holidays
