About the Budapest Metro

The Budapest Metro is the second-oldest underground railway in the world, connecting major hubs across the city. Each day, tens of thousands of passengers move through its stations and carriages, which means that found items are reported daily.

Budapest’s metro system is extensive, with four main lines (M1 to M4) and numerous underground stations. BKK, the city’s transport authority, manages all metro lost property.

How to Report a Lost Item on the Budapest Metro

If you think you left your item on a train or at a station, report it as soon as possible. You can either visit the BKK Lost and Found Office in person or contact them by phone.

Try to remember which metro line and station you were on when the item was last seen. If you used a travel card or app, the timestamps may help reconstruct your route.

Be ready to describe :

The metro line and station name
Time and direction of travel
Description of your item, including brand and color

Items found on the metro or in its stations are collected and stored by the BKK (Budapest Transport Authority) Lost and Found Office.

The M1 line (the historic yellow line) is particularly busy with tourists. Station staff are trained to handle lost property efficiently, and many items are recovered within 24-48 hours if reported promptly. Valuable items like electronics are stored separately for security.
