About Train Travel in Budapest

As a major transport hub, Budapest’s train stations are extremely busy, with domestic and international lines arriving and departing from Keleti, Déli, and Nyugati stations. Travelers frequently misplace luggage, personal electronics, or documents in train compartments or waiting halls.

Hungary’s national railway service, MÁV (Magyar Államvasutak), handles a high volume of lost property across intercity, regional, and international train services.

How to Report a Lost Item on a MÁV Train

To report a lost item, contact the MÁV Lost and Found Office with the following :

Train number and route
Date and time of travel
Seat number or coach if known
Description of your item

If you lost your item in a station area (like the waiting hall or platform), be sure to mention the station name as well.

If possible, identify the specific train you were on, the compartment or seat number, and your destination. If you have a ticket, keep it on hand to help authorities trace your itinerary.

You can also submit a Lost Item Report on our platform so our team can assist you in contacting the appropriate service. Our team will help forward your report to the relevant lost and found authorities and follow up with them directly.

Our platform allows you to fill out a detailed form which we then forward to the appropriate service for faster handling.
