About the Venice City Lost Property Office

Venice’s municipal lost property service, the Ufficio Oggetti Smarriti Veneziano, is managed by the City of Venice and handles items found in public spaces within the city’s historic districts, on the islands, and in areas administered by the municipality. Items found in the streets, vaporetto stops, public squares, and other civic spaces that are handed in to city authorities are logged and held at this office.

The office is located at Ca’ Farsetti, Palazzo municipale, San Marco 4136, on the mezzanine level. Ca’ Farsetti is the historic seat of the City of Venice administration, situated on the Grand Canal near the Rialto area.

What Should You Do If You’ve Lost Something in Venice ?

If you lose something in Venice, first check the location where the loss occurred and contact local businesses or ACTV (the public transport operator) if the loss was on a vaporetto or bus. For items found in public spaces and submitted to city authorities, the Ufficio Oggetti Smarriti is the right point of contact. The office is open on weekday mornings only, so plan accordingly.

Venice’s unique geography means that recovery can take longer than in a conventional city. If you believe an item has fallen into a canal, contact the relevant authorities directly rather than the lost property office.
