Have you lost something at San Diego International Airport ? Find out how to report a lost item at California’s second-busiest airport.

About San Diego International Airport
San Diego International Airport (SAN) is the busiest single-runway commercial airport in the United States, handling over 25 million passengers annually despite operating just one runway on a compact site at Lindbergh Field, on the northern edge of San Diego Bay. Located approximately three kilometers from downtown San Diego, the airport is served by Southwest, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta, United Airlines, Spirit, and a range of international airlines including British Airways, Lufthansa, and Japan Airlines.
SAN serves the major military city and popular tourist destination of San Diego, with strong connections to Mexico, California’s other major cities, and domestic hubs across the US. The airport features two main terminals Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 with a connecting shuttle bus, and a ground transportation centre handling taxis, rideshares, and Metropolitan Transit System bus connections. The compact footprint means passenger density is high, particularly during the summer beach season and major events such as Comic-Con International in July.
What Should You Do If You’ve Lost Something at San Diego Airport ?
If you notice the loss while still in the terminal, go to the information desk or speak to airport staff immediately. The lost property office is located in Terminal 2 and handles found items from across the airport.
San Diego Airport operates a lost property pickup service by appointment only. This means you will need to contact the office to confirm your item has been found and arrange a specific time to collect it, rather than walking in without notice.
How to Report a Lost Item at San Diego Airport
Contact the San Diego International Airport lost property office to file your report and, once the item is confirmed found, schedule a pickup appointment. Provide the date and time of your visit, the terminal and specific area where the item was lost, your flight details, and a clear description of the item. You can also report your lost items by submitting a report through our platform, so our team can help you get in touch with the correct lost property office(s).
Items Lost at Security or on an Aircraft
For items left at a TSA security checkpoint, contact TSA directly in addition to the airport lost property service. For items left on board a Southwest, American, Delta, Alaska, or other flight, contact the airline’s baggage services separately. The airport covers items found within the terminal; airlines cover items found on their aircraft.
Common areas at SAN where passengers lose items include the TSA lanes in both terminals, the shuttle bus between terminals, gate seating areas, food and retail outlets, baggage claim carousels, and the ground transportation pickup area.
Tips to Efficiently Report a Lost Item
- Note which terminal you were in Terminal 1 or Terminal 2
- Contact the office first to confirm the item has been found before arranging a visit
